In 1907, aged 13, Jacques Henri Lartigue began accompanying his brother Maurice, another flying fanatic, to Issy-les-Moulineaux, eager for new experiences. At the time, this town on the southern edge of Paris had a hug military parade ground, "a vast and empty expanse of packed earth," that could be used by the aeronauts whose craft were now equipped with motors and propellers.
