Lartigue at 100

Painting, photography, writing; for me, there is no hierarchy. They are different means of expression but all serve the same purpose, to record what is constantly going on. If things are moving quickly I choose photograph because it is the art of fleeting reality.

Here a selection of Lartigue’s favorite themes are illustrated by his drawings, texts and photographs: cars, the first airplanes, beach games, winter sports, elegant women and artists who made a big impression on him such as Sacha Guitry, Kees Van Dongen and Pablo Picasso.
Presented at the Espace Electra in Paris in 1994, this exhibition was conceived to celebrate the centenary of Lartigue’s birth.
